Sheep Farming in Barnet

Or how sheep are herded and shorn.

Up until 6 months ago people could park in my local town without worries. Sure, there were yellow lines but they were never enforced so people parked both sides of the wide high street and went about their business.

Then January 9th came along and suddenly the yellow lines were enforced. Regular patrols of NCP traffic wardens caused motorists to beat a hasty retreat to the nearest free car parks. OK, not much of a change but a hassle for motorists and an impact on the local shops.

Then, a few months later once people were used to having to use the free car parks or be penalised, the local council announced that parking meters would be introduced in the free car parks! Hourly fees are small (compared to central London) but if you don’t pay them, the same army of traffic wardens will issue you a nice penalty notice.

Consider yourself herded and shorn (As old barbers used to say: “a little off the top sir?”).

But it’s only another 50p here and 50p there, so it doesn’t really matter, does it?
