At present hurricanes, originating far out in the Atlantic, blow westwards towards the Caribbean and Americas Gulf coast, and leave Europes coastline unscathed. Now scientists warn that climate change means that the Mediterranean is warming up so much it stores enough heat to trigger the formation of its own hurricanes. Full story above (follow link).

Ouch! And scarily feasible too … although probably not the size of Hurricane Katrina (fortunately) which would be half the width of the Mediterranean (north to south!).
