Read MoreYou Are Not a Gadget: The Continuing Case Against Web 2.0 (A Response)
I read the recent RWW Article which is a response to Jaron Lanier's book "You Are Not a Gadget: A Manifesto", in which he makes the case for a more humanistic approach to Internet technology. Lanier rails against web 2.0, which he calls at the start of the book "a torrent of petty designs" and "freedom [...] more for machines than people." This is my response to the RWW article.
Read MoreMySQL to be replaced by Drizzle at RackSpace?
I just read a post on Cloud Computing Journal that suggests that RackSpace will be rolling out Drizzle later this year on their Cloud, and are probably going to replace MySQL in the process. Drizzle is a cloud-directed, Linux-leaning, stripped-down, hitherto for unsupported, GPL 2 MySQL 6.0 fork that Rackspace is betting will infinitely scale, or at least scale better than MySQL. But what will that mean for the websites hosted on the RackSpace Cloud?

It is difficult to compete sometimes - that's natural. But the Web Industry suffers from a huge number of amateurs who are pretending to be professionals. Hackers are a common and persistent threat to any website, but there are steps you can take to protect yourself and to make your websites and applications harder to exploit.
Read MorePortability of VoIP Numbers Lacking
Some time ago we began to allow people to change their telecoms provider but keep the same telephone number (fixed land line). Along came mobile phones and the same principle followed - we could change our network and keep our same cell phone number (subject to certain physical handset license restrictions notwithstanding). However, the VoIP market is still firmly entrenched and you cannot change your VoIP provider AND keep the same number.

About Me
I have co-founded two ventures to date: Meejana Ltd & Emissary Ltd. The former is a Lebanese restaurant based in Weybridge, Surrey and the latter is an Internet company serving various clients throughout the EMEA region.
I am a highly creative, visual and analytical thinker with the ability to apply a broad range of experience to solving business problems. Prior to “flying solo” and forming my own companies I provided management consulting in both business process engineering & web strategy for blue-chip companies including Abbey, FedEx, GKN and GE Capital. I have worked in and around IT since 1986. This is also underpinned by my recognition for professional, academic and civic achievements by The International Who’s Who of Professionals in 2001.
Alongside my IT career, I have also designed and directed numerous events, ranging from educational, to corporate and social. These have included the Hallowe’en Horrors charity productions for Fort Amherst in Kent, dinner dance events for 600+ guests, outdoor catering for 10,000+ people, and numerous fantasy live role playing and murder mystery events which I have produced, written and directed.
I also deliver IT security consulting and training for SSR-i as an approved IT security trainer.
